Here is what I can think of off the top of my head. You can draw a LOT of parallels but it is also such a fundamentally different take that it isn't just ripping it off. I thought it was a lot like Alien at first, to the point where it may have been a direct homage, definitely partially inspired from it at the very least. So it isn't only about the first part of it. But I have already read it and remember the gist of the overall plot. Its biased toward the first quarter of the book, because that is how far I currently am in it.
So here is everything I currently have to say.
No wonder I liked both so much! I have so many thoughts and ideas regarding the metaphorical Venn diagram of these two great works of literature. I was super blown away when I realized they where not only by the same author, but also have so much in common. To me it was just a great piece of sci fi I read before I got into The Bobiverse, and wanted to revisit. I didn't realize this book was by Taylor until I started re-reading it a few days ago. Plus if they aren't spaced out in time its gonna get repetitive. Plz don't steal the idea tho I don't want to get left behind because I haven't read a book yet. So if its cool with the mods and a popular I want to make similar posts discussing my thoughts on each book as I finish them, and furthering said discussions in the comments. I just posted about reccomendations for Taylors other books. So I thought it would be cool to do a discussion thread. They clearly inspired eachother in a lot of ways, have tons of themes in common, etc etc. As I was writing I realized that The Singularity Trap and the Bobiverse books 2 and 3 were written in tandem and released really close together. Thus I got way off topic, and it got really, really long. We all have different taste and opinions, you are fully welcome to not like things I like :) ) Anyway, I have ADHD and my focus meds kicked in as I was doing so. I was writing a reply to u/NickRick, who didn't like this book, explaining why I liked it. I love this book and really want to be able to talk about it with someone. Plus there is no sub for this book or Taylor so I don't really have anywhere else to post it or to discuss with people who have read it. It is also by Dennis E Taylor and has a lot in common with The Bobiverse, and references, compares and contrasts it with it.
